Heat pumps stay active all year long. That puts a lot of strain on individual parts. Warranty status:
Heat pump warranties come in two varieties. The first is the labor warranty issued by the contractor who installed the system (or repaired it last). The second is a parts warranty issued by the manufacturer of the heat pump. A Golden Rule technician will always check the status of any warranties to make sure you get the most affordable repair possible.

Contractor experience:
When hiring a company or individual contractor to repair your heat pump, it’s best to think in terms of the value provided rather than cost alone. Size of the system:
The bigger the geothermal heat pump, the more expensive the system is to install. System size is directly correlated with home size. But the age of the home, insulation, window quality, etc., can also impact size. Most geothermal systems made for residential use range from 2 to 5 tons. System efficiency:
Just like a standard heat pump, geothermal heat pumps have a variety of performance standards. Variable speed compressors are the most efficient, and according to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, may use up to 75% less power than single-stage or two-stage capacity compressors.

Rebates & tax credits:
Geothermal heat pumps are some of the most efficient HVAC systems on the market. Utility companies and local governments tend to offer rebates to install them, and even the federal government may have tax credits in place to reduce the cost of your new geothermal system.

A heat pump works much like an air conditioner. Refrigerant travels through various components that change its pressure and temperature to move thermal energy from one place to another. Your outdoor unit comprises a compressor and condenser, whereas the indoor unit comprises the air handler and evaporator coil.

What remains unique about the heat pump is the reversing valve that allows it to draw heat from the air outside and bring it in during the winter and remove heat from your home during the summer. This versatility has made it into a popular HVAC system.
