When you notice that something seems “off” with your air conditioning system, such as a drop in cooling power, odd noises from the cabinet, ice along the indoor coil, or the compressor rapidly starting and stopping, do you immediately call for a repair technician? Or do you instead choose to wait for a while to see if the problem gets worse or simply goes away?
We hope it’s not the latter. No matter what seems to be ailing your air conditioner, it’s never a wise idea to just let the problem “simmer.” These small issues can warn of bigger ones, and even something that seems minor can turn into a worse problem. It almost certainly will.
How Small AC Issues Change into Larger Ones
A drop in cooling power that leads to certain rooms feeling warmer than others can indicate numerous different problems inside the system, and most of these are progressive, i.e., they will become worse the longer they are allowed to continue. Uneven cooling can come from the loss of refrigerant in the system, which will potentially cause the compressor to break down. It could also come from leaking air ducts, which will place immense strain on the HVAC system in general, leading to multiple malfunctions.
If you see ice on the evaporator coil, it means that the coil is having trouble absorbing sufficient heat. There are many reasons this might happen, but all of them will result in more ice growing until eventually, the coil can’t absorb any heat—and the AC won’t work at all.
AC cabinet noises usually point toward mechanical troubles with the motors. As you probably know from dealing with vehicles, motor problems of any kind threaten the motor with complete failure unless it’s addressed.
So don’t hesitate the next time you notice your AC acting funny. Call our repair experts so you can avoid bigger repairs and the future… and prevent an abrupt breakdown on the hottest day of the year!
