We live in uncertain times. With all Americans doing everything they can to protect themselves and their loved ones from the spread of COVID-19, you may be wondering if there are extra precautions you should be taking. Many people are already wearing masks when they go out, for instance. It’s also become common practice to clean and sanitize groceries and other items brought inside your home from the outside world.
Here at Golden Rule, we know that some of you may be wondering, “can water filtration protect me from the Coronavirus?” Well, the answer is more complicated than you may think. Read on for the information you need to know and remember that Golden Rule is always here for your essential services.
Can the Coronavirus be Spread through Drinking Water?
According to the current information provided by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,), there is no evidence at this time that COVID-19 can be spread through municipal drinking water. Furthermore, the organization states that “Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as those in most municipal drinking water systems, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” So, in a way, yes! Water filtration may be an effective means of protection against the Coronavirus.
However, it’s important to note that research regarding the spread of the Novel Coronavirus is still ongoing. That’s why at this time, it is not a good idea to recommend home water filtration systems as an effective means of protection against COVID-19. More importantly, the Coronavirus is usually spread through airborne droplets or contact with surfaces. Although no one knows for sure, some research indicates that the virus may be able to survive for up to 24 hours on cardboard or up to 72 hours on steel and plastic. This is why for proper protection, continually wiping down surfaces is among the most important steps you can take.
The good news is that with professional water treatment from Golden Rule, you will be able to get rid of other harmful contaminants in your water. It is also an extremely good idea to install a water filtration system in your home now, so you do not have to continually go to the grocery store to pick up bottled water. Most importantly to fall, clean water helps keep you healthy, and we could all use a boost to our immune system right about now.
